I have always enjoyed knitting and started knitting when I was very young.
I generally would make sweaters for everyone I knew. Later I moved on to other projects that involved knitting and crocheting.
About five years ago I became interested in starting a small business. I
began by knitting women's clothes and showing at craft fairs. I had a store front in a small mall for a short period
of time.
I read an article about knitting dog sweaters
and I knew that I wanted to change my business to dog sweaters as I love animals. I have two dogs; Chewie, a(Llhasa and
Liddy, a Golden Retriever). I had convinced my husband Jerry several years earlier that we needed to spend more time together
knitting. Though hard for him (he's a lefty), I was able to teach him how to hand knit.
We
design and sell knitted dog sweaters. We have a knitting machine which he makes the body of the dog sweater. I do all the
finishing work such as leg sleeves, seams, snap covers, all custom design work such as ruffles, bones, novelty yarn accents
and sweaters, etc. For local customers, we go to their house and take the dog measurements, "fittings" and
play with their dogs.
We enjoy our work, which is a labor of
love, working with customers who truly love their dogs and making a sweater that is very attractive, one of a kind, and will
keep the dog warm.
